To mark the countdown to the launch of the Big Farmland Bird Count, members of the North Essex Farmer Cluster met up at Bovingdon Farm near Braintree on 26th January to learn more about winter farmland birds.
Following an initial visit this time last year, they returned for another guided tour through the winter bird food plots – now in their second year of the scheme.
Mark Nowers, of the RSPB, led the walk with his usual enthusiasm and expertise.
The morning also offered farmers the opportunity to get free support to carry out their own farmland bird surveys by being matched with experts from the Essex Birdwatching Society, who are able to carry out surveys on behalf of farmers.
